How do you measure up?

It's currently raining here in Las Vegas. I was talking with my husband about different flash flood signs around town when he pointed this "stick" out to me.This is a "measuring stick" located in a flood zone.
A flash flood is hard to fathom but once you've seen one or been in one you know it's serious business.

Strange combination.

I have passed this many times to and from work when the freeway is plugged up. This is on Las Vegas Boulevard on the way to downtown Las Vegas. This shop has always left me baffled. I have often wondered to myself, do you wake up one morning and say "I have a great idea, we'll sell Chinese Food and Donuts." Top it off with some coffee and phone cards we're good to go!

It must have been the milk man.

Andy the milkman, was created in 1956 for the Anderson Dairy. The sign has been restored and is now part the Fremont Street Experience. Does anyone remember when the milkman used to deliver to your home? I just barely remember it!

Preferred parking.

As I was on my way home from work this afternoon I decided to take a ride downtown. I made a wrong turn and had to turn around in a motel/wedding chapel parking lot. That's where I discovered this sign! It was tucked away with a trellis and trash cans near by. I just couldn't pass this photo op up.

Show Tickets

You can purchase 1/2 price tickets for many Las Vegas Shows at Tix 4 Tonight. There are 4 locations this is the Fashion Show Mall on the Strip. There are two more located on the Strip, one near the Riviera Hotel and Casino, the other at the Hawaiian MarketPlace. The Four Queens is the Downtown Location. The shows post at 10:30 am, the ticket outlets are open between 11:00 am and 8:00 pm. Here's the catch, while you can view what's available that evening online you can't buy them online. You have to go to one of the outlets to make your purchase.

The start of the Holiday Season.

While many of you begin the Holiday Season at the mall pushing and pulling trying to get a great bargain. We have a different way to start the season, making sausage. Yes, sausage. Doesn't everybody make their own? This is a tradition our dear friend Susan started when she took possession of the family sausage maker. We all know our jobs, the mixer, the pusher, the pricker, the puller and the bag lady/man. We made 18 lbs of Swedish Sausage which is absolutely delicious. How do you start your Holiday Season?

Not your average trip to the ATM!

Had you going there didn't I? When in Las Vegas why not make a trip to a different ATM. The Atomic Testing Museum located at 755 E Flamingo Road (just about 2 blocks from the strip) will take about 1 1/2 hours take in. There's movies to view and interactive displays as well. The cost is $12.00 for Adults and $9.00 for Children. They do not allow cameras or videos. Slightly biased but well done all the same.

Hearrt and Soul

This is the scene outside of Heart and Soul Restaurant in North Las Vegas today. Owner/Chef Lawrence and his team will be deep frying over 200 turkeys for Las Vegans this year. They were just starting to get rolling when I came by early this morning. Deep Fried Turkey is absolutely delicious. Happy Thanksgiving.

This shot of this antique slot machine, was taken at the Sierra Nevada Mining Tavern where we had dropped in to have lunch. They have a few more antique slot machines on display. There are of course state of the art slot machines you can play at the bar.

The Deuce

Finally after many attempts, I have managed to get a presentable photo of " The Deuce." I have taken numerous photos and have had to delete all of them. I heard on the radio that San Francisco will be trying out The Deuce in their city, I wonder what they will call it. I have not yet taken a ride on the Deuce but I would imagine it would be a nice way to in the strip.

Deuce sign

This is the sign for the bus that runs along the Strip to Downtown Las Vegas is of course called the Deuce. I never realized that there was a "chip" in the Logo. One ride is of course $2.00,

I took this shot this afternoon. I had not idea it would turn out so well. I can't get over how blue the sky is. This is of course a view of the Venetian Hotel tower.

Some like it hot...

Sexxpresso located at 670 E Flamingo Road, promises to deliver the "hottest coffee in Vegas". This drive thru coffee shop serves your coffee in A, B & DD cups. Scantly dressed Baristas prepare drinks with names like Erotic Pleasure and Porn Star. I had a Slapaccino B cup, it was good. Baristas Paris and Kitty came out to pose for AnotherLasVegasDP.

I'm predicting a great weekend!

This is Ms. Laurie's "office" located at the Fremont Street Experience. Ms Laurie is a Palm and Tarot Card Reader. If you're not sure which game to play while you are here in Las Vegas, visit Ms. Laurie for some insight. Without stepping on Ms. Laurie's toes I will go out on a limb and predict you're going to have a good weekend!

Let's kick some butt

It's The Great American Smoke Out again. The Smoke Out started back in the 1970's. The idea of the smoke out is to smoke less or stop smoking. Take it from me it's one of the hardest things for a person to do. People who have never smoked can't comprehend how hard it can be. People who do smoke don't know how good they will feel once they have stopped. Here's a link with a timeline that shows the health benefits you will reap from stopping
www.lungusa.org/site/pp.asp?c=dvLUK9O0E&b=33568 . You can also go to quitnet.com where you can get support and also they can keep stats for you such as time smoke free, number of cigarettes NOT smoked and money saved.

Elvis has left the building...

I had been thinking about the Las Vegas Hilton and their lobby for quite sometime now, I just wasn't sure when I would spring it on you. You see the Las Vegas Hilton had one of Elvis Presley's white jumpsuits on display there for as long as I can remember. When Weboj of kuwaitdailyphoto.blogspot.com mentioned "The King" the other day I knew I had to make a trip to get photo of Elvis' jumpsuit. Much to my surprise it is no longer there, and the employees that I interrogated had no idea what happened to it. I will try to track down that jumpsuit, but in the meantime here is a statue of Elvis just outside of the Las Vegas Hilton lobby to the right of the front entrance.

As the dust settles, I can see clearly now...

This is where the Frontier once stood. Now we can get a clear view of what appears to be the parking structure for Trump Tower. Following a 5 minute fireworks show, the Frontier was imploded at about 2:36 am. We live about 15 miles away, my husband said he could hear the rumble and the see the dust from our house. So there you have it, 65 years of history undone in a matter of minutes. Only in Vegas.

Monday, November 12, 2007

Here today gone tomorrow

Tomorrow at 2:30 am the Frontier will just be a memory and a pile of rubble. The Frontier Hotel and Casino was the first to host the likes of Elvis Presley , Siegfried and Roy. Locally we probably remember it more for the Culinary Strike . The longest running strike which ran from 1991-1998.

Kip the fish

This sign caught my on the way to work a few weeks ago. I had time to stop today and take this photo. This sign is part a campaign to alert Las Vegans that storm drain dumping eventually ends up in Lake Mead. Here's a website with more information www.lvstormwater.com/community.htm. I'm not really sure if this a new campaign or if this is something I've been driving by for the last 5 years with my blinders on.

Double Take

No, your eyes are not playing tricks on you. This is Another LVDP, yes, you are looking at a photo in Las Vegas. This is the Paris Hotel and Casino's Arc de Triumph which is a 2/3 scale of the original. Located on the Strip, you should not miss it when in Las Vegas. Along with the Eiffel Tower is a must see!

Fall Colors

With today's weather being overcast, it made for an awesome sunset. This sunset was shot from my car on my way home. I love the autumn colors.

Las Vegas Justice Center

This is the courthouse where OJ was arraigned. OJ will be making an appearance here on Thursday. Things aren't looking good for OJ with his partners in crime rolling over on the Juice.
A local radio station reported this morning that OJ is being banned from several hotels. They do not want the negative publicity.

Rough Weekend?

Too many nightclubs? Maybe you should have drank water last night. This Pink Elephant's home is at the Diamond Inn Motel on the south end of the Strip, near Mandalay Bay.Technorati Profile

The Scene of the Crime

Here it is, the scene of the crime. This is where OJ Simpson "allegedly" took part in a armed robbery. The Palace Station Hotel and Casino is off the Strip on Sahara Ave. Hmmm, just a thought maybe OJ should have played Bingo instead of with guns. This link has some memorable OJ quotes.www.fox5vegas.com/interactivemedia/14151871/detail.html
