The future's so bright...

I gotta wear shades! I found these shades while walking on the Strip, I think they are the must have accessory for ringing in the New Year. Wishing you and your loved ones a fun filled New Years Eve, stay safe and I'll see you next year!

La Fontaine des Mers, Las Vegas

I am so happy this photo turned out. This is of course a replica of La Fountaine des Mers. This replica is in front of the Paris Hotel and Casino here in Las Vegas. It is a beautiful day today, sunny and in the 60's. Jusqu'a` demain!

Street Performer

This afternoon I came across this street performer on the Strip. Standing on his "stone art" podium he was entertaining both young and old alike. He handed out lollipops to children who put a dollar in his bucket. He was pretty good and his bucket was almost full!

The Mirage

A view of the Mirage, home of Sigfried and Roy's Secret Garden, the Dolphin habitat and of course the volcano that erupts at night.

Nevada State Senate Race '08 heating up!

I'm not really sure who this candidate is, or what they stand for . I'm hoping he or she will want to improve education in Nevada. According to the urban dictionary, the term "for the peps" should be "for the peeps." And I'm not referring to the yellow marshmallow Easter candy.

Happy Holidays!

I braved the cold this morning and captured this photo. This morning it was in the 20's! This motel is on Las Vegas Boulevard near the Stratosphere. This sign represents the "old Vegas" style. Hope you and your loved ones are having a wonderful holiday season.

It's official...

Starbucks is closed. It must be Christmas. Have a wonderful holiday with your loved ones. Stay safe.

No room at the inn...

You know how the story goes. Not exactly a manger, but I thought this motel sign would be appropriate for Christmas Eve. Have a wonderful holiday!

Christmas tree at Mandalay Bay

This Christmas tree i s one of many at Mandalay Bay. I like the way the window helps you to get the feeling of just how large this tree is. The sun shining in makes it look warm.

Rollin' out the red carpet...

For the UNLV Runnin' Rebels. I'm a big Rebels fan and try to go to as many games as I can. Today at the Thomas and Mack the Runnin' Rebels pounded Tennessee-Martin 74-58. It was a good game and a nice way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

Gifts

These gifts are part of the holiday display at Mandalay Bay. They are about 15 feet tall. How would you like to wake up and find gifts piled this high next to your tree?

A triple threat to the waistline.

Everyday since the beginning of this month we have had goodies delivered to our office. Today it was 3 delicious cakes. The cakes are from a place called nothingbundtcakes.com . The icing is a cream cheese frosting and it is sinful. I don't know about you but this season is rough on the waistline. Now I really understand where all those New Year's Eve resolutions to loose weight come from!

Gifts at Aliante

I captured these brightly lit gift boxes early this morning, while many of you were still sleeping.
This display is part of the Aliante community display. It actually was in the 40's this morning, warming up quite a bit.

Special Parking Permit

Santa should have no problem parking at this house. This family has a designated parking spot just for him!

Santa's Helper

This is part of the carousel at the Four Seasons. This working carousel is made of chocolate and sugar. The elf is probably made of either modeling chocolate or marzipan. He looks kind of scary to me.

The Nevada real estate market has never been so sweet!

That's right the Four Season's Hotel has real estate for sale, there are 20 gingerbread houses for sale at $350 each. The gingerbread village also features a working carousel made of chocolate and sugar. The carousel has been sold for $2500. The proceeds go to the Nevada Cancer Institute. The village took over 500 hours to make and 2 days to assemble. The village is on display in the hotel lobby until December 25th.

Shopping the sales.

Decisions, decisions. I hate these 2 day sales, you'd think they would run these for at least a week. With only a 2 day sale, I'm thinking the divorce sale will have the better bargains. What do you think?

Brought to you by Pepsi

This is what you see when you walk into Smith's where I shop. Pepsi background, the tree is made up of Sierra Mist and the trunk is Mug root beer. Pretty clever don't you think?

Movie Magic

Believe it or not this building was in the movie Casino. This abandoned Thai buffet was transformed in to the Trading Post Jewelery Store. It of course look much different, as it was supposed to be an old western trading post. Next time you are watching Casino look for the scene where Joe Pesci "Nicky" is outside talking with Frank Vincent "Frank" with their hands over their mouths. They have there hands over their mouths so the FBI lip readers can't figure out what they are up to!

Venetian Mascot

This winged lion sits outside the Venetian Hotel and Casino. The winged lion is a symbol of St. Mark the patron saint of Venice.

Tuesday, December 11, 2007

Simply stated.

This sign caught my I this morning. This signsits above what appears to be an entrance to a nightclub or restaurant of sorts. I could not find any info about this place. I will have to research it more. I like how this turned out, I like that you can't make out the building it is attached to .

Mailboxes etc...

I was returning from lunch yesterday afternoon, when I spotted this mail box. This mailbox sits on an empty lot which will be developed soon. I managed to catch a small part of the required developer/builder's sign in the background.
Does anybody have a newspaper delivery box like this blue one? I haven't seen one of these newspaper delivery boxes in years. We have the paper delivered and they just chuck it on our driveway.

Festive Palm Trees

I passed these festive palm trees on the way to the gym this morning. They make the community look so nice this time of year. I wish they would leave the lights up all year long!

Unique Holiday Spirit

We spotted this tire Christmas tree this afternoon. It's hard to make out, but someone has strung amber lights and topped it off with a star. Pretty clever don't you think?

Weird even for Las Vegas

It rained today in Las Vegas, I know that's not really a big deal elsewhere, but here it is a major event. Our average yearly rainfall is about 4 inches. It's rained twice this week! (WOOHOO!)This very unusual "funnelesque" cloud caught my eye at sundown this evening. This is not the best shot but it was to weird not to post. This is on the west side of the Vegas Valley, near Mt Charleston which is getting snow right now. I can't wait until tomorrow morning to see the mountain tops covered in snow.

One cool hang out.

Located at 650 S Main St The Ice House Lounge sits on the very spot where the original ice house stood. Back in the day the ice house serviced the Union Pacific Railroad. Now it's a cool restaurant, bar and nightclub. It boasts a bar made of ice and plenty of stainless steel.

Unusual Neighbors

This photo comes to you thanks to a tie up on the I15 ,which sent me down the scenic path to work this morning. I often pass this on my way to work while in "plan B" mode and always chuckle when I see it. I wonder how many other people are entertained by sight of this. I mean come on, how many places in the world have a Bail Bonds office and a Wedding Chapel right next door to each other! Only in Vegas.

Always ready for Mardi Gras.

Not quite time for Mardi Gras, but don't tell this masked reveler that. She's ready for Mardi Gras everyday! This gal sits above one of the entrances to Harrah's Hotel and Casino on the Strip. This Mardi Gras themed hotel is center strip close to other major hotels and casinos.

Healthy Holiday Treat

This van caught my eye while I was out and about. Edible Arrangements creates unique and delicious arrangements. We receive these in the office quite a bit and everyone loves them. The fruit is always top quality. They also feature arrangements that have strawberries dipped in chocolate (ok not so healthy).
These clever arrangements are assembled by putting the fruit on bamboo skewers, the skewer is then arranged and anchored in a head of cabbage which goes into the basket. There are currently 795 stores in the USA, Canada, Puerto Rico, the UK and the UAE. Maybe you have a store near you check out ediblearrngements.com .

The Fountains at Caesars Palace

These are the fountains in front of Caesars Palace that daredevil Evel Knievel attempted to jump on December 31, 1967. There are actually 3 fountains which is hard to judge from this angle. Evel Knievel didn't quite make it, he ended up with a crushed pelvis and numerous fractures. This jump landed Evel in a coma for 29 days. Evel Knievel died Friday at the age of 69.

Theme Day Bridges

Today we are at the Venetian. This is a side view of the bridge/square at the entrance of the hotel. Gondola rides embark from the other side of the bridge. An outdoor gondola ride will set you back $12.50 (weather permitting) an indoor ride is $15.00 complete with a Gondolier who will serenade you. Today it is cool and windy, I think I would opt for the indoor ride.
