Road Block

It seems like there is always roadwork going on here in Las Vegas. "Jersey Barriers"are all over dividing the roads. I usually pay them no mind, but yesterday coming home from the gym I notice these had the Las Vegas Paving Corp logo on them.

LV High School's had a Facelift

I was driving past the old Las Vegas High School (now Las Vegas Academy), and had to do a double take. It seems they had a little "work" done, since my August post.
I think I like this darker color better.

ALVDP Gives New Meaning to Fill 'er up!

I imagine the customer saying something like this " $20 on number 3 and I'll have the Beef and Broccoli, Kung Pao chicken, 2 Egg rolls and Pork Fried Rice, don't forget to thrown in some of that hot mustard sauce.I'll be taking these Huggies."

Like something from a Coen Brother's movie, Pat's Chinese food and Mini Mart is on the corner of Owens and MLK.

Notice Anything?

I'm not sure if you can pick up on the peculiar thing about this sign, from this photo. Actually, there are two unusual things going on here. This sign is in the median, that separates the travel lanes and it's only about four feet tall. And yes that is a trailer park in the background.

Past Meets Present Security...

Sometimes, the things I see around Las Vegas amaze even me! This sign and camera are another great Downtown find. I managed to get some great shots with just the sign but decided on this photo with the security camera.
You'll find this at 4th and Ogden. Interesting shot don't you think?

Culinary Union

Here's a side view of the Culinary Union building. The Culinary represents many of Las Vegas' Hotel and Casino employees. If you've visited Las Vegas you've had contact with a Culinary member. It's members include the maid who cleaned your room, the waiter or waitress who took your lunch order to the bell hop who schlepped your luggage to your room.

Your Won't See This in NY

That's right you won't see a tumbleweed in NY. But you will here in the wild, wild west.

When I first moved from NY and saw one of these I had to have my picture taken with it. I sent it to my mother, who got a kick out of it. So, I hope all of my East Coast friends will get a chuckle out of this photo.

This weekend was the 3rd annual BalloonaPolooza in North Las Vegas at Craig Ranch Golf Course. Every year we have tried to go, the wind would pick up, so the balloons have been grounded. This a balloon I saw Sunday morning, about 8:00 you can see the Stratosphere and the City Center project from all the way out on Grand Teton and Decatur. This shot is about 15 miles from the Strip. Notice the poor air quality.

Remax Balloon

Early this morning (about 7:00 am) I spotted the Remax balloon in the northwest sky. This is shot from Grand Teton and Tenaya, near Gilcrease Orchards.

It was a beautiful morning about 70°. I hate to admit this but it felt kind of cold. I'm ashamed to say I wore a light jacket for a little while.

Holsum Lofts

The Holsum Bakery was open for 50 years, no longer a bakery, just a facade for the Holsum Lofts. Located on the edge of the Arts District on Charleston Boulevard. I snapped this one while at a red light on my way home from work.

More of Yesterday's Find

More of yesterday's amazing find! I have to make a correction this is actually closer to Oakey rather than St Louis.

Another Reason to Love Vegas

I spotted this on my way home one day. Exploring another neighborhood when I came across this this home. This is obviously an older home, off St Louis between Las Vegas Blvd and Maryland Parkway.

Here's a Nasty Race

Same corner as yesterday (Ann and Jones), lets take a look at this sign that catches your eye. This is sign and its' blog are compliments of the Nevada State Democrat Party. The Blog has a Bob Beers trivia game which was kinda fun.

Las Vegas Elections

This empty lot at Ann Road and Jones is a prime example of what Las Vegans have to put up with during elections. Candidates have their signs all over the place and I find it really annoying. It seems like we have an election all year round.

The Stratosphere with the freaky spidery ride, almost 1200 feet above the ground. Not a ride for the faint of heart.

A Trip to Texas Station

I have always liked this plaque. I had to stop at Texas Station to pick up our football tickets. Things look pretty bad in Texas today, I hope they will not end up with a mess like Katrina.

Look Out for the Western Exterminator

I'm not trying to be irreverent but I think that this Western Exterminator is apropos for today's post. Hard to believe it was 7 years ago, that day will remain etched in my mind. It was the day 30 miles north of Ground Zero, my beautiful niece came home from the hospital for the first time. The day my brother's old roommate, a traffic controller at La Guardia witnessed the second crash, then walked from Queens to Wall Street to find his wife and then they walked home to Westchester County. It was the day we saw the empty skies over Las Vegas for 3 days.

Hey Bin Laden, we haven't forgotten about you. Yeah, the Western Exterminators will get you sooner or later. Because we never, ever forget!

More Redrock

The waterscape at the Redrock is just so beautiful. The Redrock is about a 1/2 hour drive from the Strip, well worth the trip. Take a look at an upscale "locals" casino when you're visiting Las Vegas.

Back to Redrock...

I know Redrock again? Yes again.( This time I'll spell it right!)This place is just so cool! How cool is this waterfall? This is by the the casino entrance closest to the sports book where I put my football bets in. I unfortunately I ended up with 10 wins and 5 losses, not enough to win anything. Better luck next week, I'm up for any suggestions on my football picks!

The Big Event

It rained today, which is a major event. I took the dog for a short walk before dinner, grabbed my camera and look what I found, just behind my my neighbor's house. This beautiful rainbow.

One thing I've noticed is that we get a lot of rainbows in Las Vegas after the rain. I don't remember there being a lot of rainbows in New York after a storm. The only other place remember seeing lots of rainbows was in Ireland. How about where you live do you see rainbows after a storm?

Redrodk Casino

I really liked what I saw of the Redrock Casino yesterday. I was there very briefly but managed a few shots. Station Casino's are about 2 months away from completing their newest addition Alliante Station which is supposed to be as nice as Redrock Station if not better. Now I really can't wait.

I think I'm doing pretty good with football picks 7 and 2 so far... it's still early.

My Bets Are In!

I had a few errands to rub today which took me out to Summerlin. I had to place my football picks for tomorrow's games, so we stopped here at the Red Rock Station Casino. I had never been here before it's a pretty nice casino! Cross you fingers for me on my picks...I know zip about football.

Game On!

It's that time again! It's football season, which means big bucks for the casinos. The Station Casino's has the most popular football contest for $25.oo, you have to pick your teams straight up without points and put your entries in every week before the kickoff Sunday morning. There are weekly prizes, and for the season such as most wins, fiddle in the middle, and most losses. The prizes are a new home, BMW's and of course cool cash. This is my first year with an entry. Wish me luck.

Texas Star

I snapped this photo at the Texas Station Hotel and Casino. I thought it turned out pretty cool.

One More Alien

Meet Cosmo, the Las Vegas 51's mascot. The 51's are the Los Angeles Dodgers Triple A team. Named for the infamous Area 51 outside of Las Vegas where there's supposed to be aliens and alien spacecraft.

We went to a game over the weekend, it was painful. 5 errors within 2 innings, they did go on to win the game.

Beam Me Up Scotty!

The final voyage was last night at 8:00 pm. This is a photo from the Star Trek Experience's Museum, reports have trekkies who traveled from as far away as Australia.

Theme Day Sister Cities

With Las Vegas, having so many "cities" within it, you would think it would be hard to choose a city for Theme Day. Not so ,my Sister City will always be the city that never sleeps, the Big Apple, The City, a place I will always call home... New York City.

Check out the rest of the gang's Sister Cities:
