Voting Early vs Losing Your Virginity

I did it, I lost my "early voting virginity," Here, I go, it was long awaited and over way too fast. Will I do it again yes.

Leave Your Mark

I spotted this while stuck in traffic on the Stip. This is on one of the beams at CityCenter, Iron Workers Local 433 Las Vegas. I love when I find this stuff. I have to tell you this CityCenter is a beast, it's massive. It will be interesting to tour it once it's finished, take a quick peek here for now.

Try One

Have you ever shot a gun? I mean a REAL gun. (With bullets) Have you done that? I 've never done that, not sure that I would ever want to. So if you're in Las Vegas and get tired of gambling you could go to the The Gun Store to shoot an Uzi.

The Glass is Empty...

This is a classic example of here today gone tomorrow, I remember passing this motel a million times thinking how cool this place looked but NEVER took a picture of it. Now it's gone and all that's left is the sign. The Glass Inn was located on the south end of the Strip had a pink pool in front with large round glass windows in the sides so you could see the swimmers in the pool.

This really is a shame, the Glass Pool Inn pure American kitsch is gone. At least I manged to get a shot of the sign.

Photographer's Park Here ----->

So after I parked where I shouldn't have what do I find? You guessed it...a designated parking lot for photographers eager to photograph the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign. I must tell you I had no idea this (small, I mean very small) parking lot existed. This parking lot is where the old Las Vegas Tourist Bureau once stood. This parking lot serves a temporary fix until Clark County's $500,000 parking lot is completed.

Honestly I think it's money well spent. Yeah I know, you're thinkin' Mo that sounds like-a-lotta money for a parking lot. Well, it's Vegas Baby... it will of course be done up in the usual Vegas Style.

The Original McCarran

The Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign is about half a block north of here. I snuck in here to park while shooting the sign last Saturday. Right now there is a parking lot under construction for all the tourists and wannabe photographers to park. They're hoping to curtail the jaywalking, which is truly dangerous especially on Las Vegas Boulevard.

From what I can gather this is where the original airport was. Now this terminal hosts small charter jets.

Leavin' Las Vegas...

Yesterday, we celebrated ALVDP's 1st anniversary with a photo of the Welcome to the Las Vegas sign. Today we'll continue the celebration with a peek at the back of the sign as you're leaving Las Vegas. This side of the sign seems to get overlooked. (Must be the hangovers!)

Like the sign says, come back soon!

A Year Later...

Hard to imagine it was one year ago when I hit that publish post button and began ALVDP. For an anniversary photo I thought I would revisit the world famous YESCO sign. This time things would be different, I would take many different angles, settings and tons of shots.

This past year I've learned to stop and soak up the world around me. There is so much to take in, I like to think of Las Vegas a visual buffet. It's amazing looking at the world around you through a camera lens.

Thank you to all my loyal readers who tune in everyday to see what I've found next, you've given me something positive to focus on, in such a crazy world.

And now you know the answer to yesterday's question, the light bulbs are part of the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign.

Take a Guess...

Tomorrow is ALVDP's 1st anniversay/birthday. Take a guess as to where this photo was snapped. Hard to believe it's been a whole year! Stay tuned!

K-9 Contest

Today my Mom and I attended the 18th annual Las Vegas K-9 Trials at the Orleans Arena. It was interesting and fun to say the least. The competition was between different Law Enforcement Agencies and cities throughout the west. Entertaining and free it was a nice way to spend the day. Siegfried and Roy were there as well as Clint Holmes.

I hope you like this shot of Bally's.This corner is one of the hot spots of all corners of the world. I shot this through my moon roof on Las Vegas Boulevard today. Bally's is on the corner of Flamingo and Las Vegas Boulevard , in the olden days, the Dunes was across the street from Bally's. The Bellagio is where the Dunes used to be.

I always felt like that corner was the "hot" spot back in the day.

Mayor Goodman's Stairway Portrait

How cool is this? This is Las Vegas Mayor, Oscar Goodman. His likeness painted on the stairs inside the Arts Factory. Some of you may be thinking where have I seen this guy before? Hint he was in a movie about Las Vegas. Care to guess?

Charleston Bazar

Early morning shot of the Charleston Bazar. I shot this on my way to work yesterday morning. (Yes I was on time!) I had been wanting to get a shot of this sign for a while. I had thought that Bazar was spelled wrong. I come to find out there is more than one way to spell it. It can be spelled bazar or the more common spelling bazaar. Both mean the same thing, marketplace.

Flamingo Statue

A flamingo at the Flamingo pool. I used to love flamingos, I collected them about 20 years ago. I don't collected them anymore. I don't collect anything anymore. I really don't have the attention span to be a "collector" of any thing, I get bored with things too easily. How about you, do you collection anything?

Flamingo Hilton

The moon on Saturday night at the Flamingo. This was shot from gardens near the pool area. We took the Las Vegas Mob Tour on Saturday night. This was the one stop were they allowed us to get off of the mini bus. I think the reason they do not let you off of the bus is so you don't escape! I'm sorry to say this but this tour was just AWFUL. I was hoping it would be really cheesy with some kooky photo ops, not the case it was just plain terrible.

Never to Young to Start

Start was the theme of American Heart Association's fund raising walk. The Start encourages Americans to get up and start exercising to help fight heart disease and stroke. One of the youngest and cutest Heart Walk entrants, part of the Nevada Heart and Vascular Center team.

Las Vegas Heart Walk 2008

Yesterday morning we braved the cold, to participate in the 2008 Heart Walk. The Heart walk which benefits the American Heart Association was held this year at Mountains Edge located in the Southwest end of the Vegas valley.

While lining up and waiting to start the Heart Walk, I met Lucy this beautiful Italian Greyhound. Here she is close to her favorite human's heart keeping warm, during this cold, WINDY 47° (not counting the wind chill) morning. She's got a beautiful profile don't you think?

An early morning shot of UMC if you look closely you can see University Medical Center within the sign, it's almost a holographic effect. UMC is Las Vegas' first Trauma Center and only level I Trauma Center. We now have two more Trauma Centers Sunrise Level II and St Rose Siena Level III.

For those of you not from Las Vegas you may remember hearing UMC in the news. This where Tupac was taken after being shot and more recently where Roy Horn of Siegfried and Roy was taken after his tiger bite.

The many of the nurses who work at UMC are Filipino, call UMC "The University of Manila Charleston campus."

Am I the only who notices these things? I seem to spot more and more wheat pasting, on the back of traffic signs all over town.
Since Halloween is around the corner I thought that I would post this spooky wheatpastng.

Las Vegas Drive In

Back in May I posted the Las Vegas Drive In sign in daylight. Now we see it at night. Yes, I was actually was out after dark. Imagine that.

A Closer Look

Here's a the grounded M Resort Spa Casino blimp, at the North Las Vegas Airport. I spotted this yesterday on my way home. The North Las Vegas Airport is a small airport, which has been in the news as of late. There were two, yes I said two plane crashes within one week. Both crashed into private residences, one on August 22nd and the other on August 28th. Unfortunately, both crashes had fatalities.

Look it's a Bird...

It's a plane, it's...a blimp. This is a view from my backyard, Sunday afternoon. The M Resort Spa Casino blimp making the rounds in the Las Vegas sky.

Notice the beautiful blue sky? It rained the night before. I must tell you we are enjoying this fabulous fall weather it's been in 80's which is just right if you ask me. How's the weather where you are? Are your skies this blue?

Stage Lights

Ok, so here's my "artsy shot." Stage lights that I shot between bands, Friday night. This is Land Rover Stage, First Friday's main stage on Casino Center and Colorado.

The Celebration Continues...

Here's 2 more Friends of First Friday, playing for the crowd. They were at the corner of Casino Center and Charleston. I'm so happy this photo tunrned out. When the girl realized I was taking her photo she flashed the peace sign. This is one of those photos that makes me feel happy when I look at! I did not get their story so if anyone knows them let 'em know that they're featured on ALVDP.

First Friday Turns 6

Las Vegas' monthly arts festival First Friday turned 6 yesterday. We spent the evening with a 1000+ friends of First Friday celebrating First Friday's 6th birthday. It was a great time, with temperatures in the 80's a great night to be outside celebrating.

If you haven't been to First Friday you don't know what you're missing! It's the best 2 bucks you'll spend. Where else can you meet artists, hear live music, have a drink, grab a bite to eat while chatting with old friends or making some new ones for only 2 bucks?

Here''s two friends who were enjoying the celebration and were more than happy to pose for me with their cool coifs. Back in the day, we used to use Tenex (in the green tube) to achieve that look. I wonder what they use now a days. A special thanks to Italy and Paige for posing for me.

What AAMCO Means to Me

This Aamco shop is on Rancho near Vegas Drive. If I remember correctly, they specialize in transmissions. Back in NY we had a AAMCO station at the bottom of the hill we used to live on. It was a full service station complete with gas pumps too. The station was owned by two brothers from Italy, there was Tony who spoke english and the other's name escapes me (probably because he spoke only broken english).

When we were kids we liked to pick apples from the neighbor's tree and roll them down the hill, the object was to get them in one of the two bays of the AAMCO station. If we were successful this would trigger one of the two owners (usually Tony because he spoke english) to yell at us and try and catch us. It was a game we loved to play until my father got wind of what were up to. "If you kids roll anymore apples down the hill you're gonna get it!"(I cleaned that up for a PG rating) About an hour after my father's proclomation my cousin Paddy turned to me and said "He didn't say anything about pears." I'm sure you know how that went. Paddy and I couldn't sit down for what seemed like a week!

A Mall

What it should say is Another Strip Mall. This cool yet weird sign is found at Maryland Parkway and Sahara. This was a quick early morning shot before work. I really didn't have much time,I will have to get the legs and all for you to see. And yes, I did make it work on time this morning.

Theme Day Lines

It's that time again, the first of the month Theme Day. This month's theme is "Lines" I struggled with this theme asking friends for suggestions yet nothing clicked until...I remembered this start/finish line at the park. (Click on the photo to enlarge)
