Awesome Blossom In The Desert

Here's a close up of the Yucca blossom I posted yesterday. It's funny I never realized how beautiful these blossoms are until I stopped to check them out yesterday.

Desert Blooms

This blooming Yucca is located near Ann Road and the 215. There are hundreds more like this one out there. It's a pretty and weird looking plant don't you think?

Blame It On Rio

You gotta love mirrored glass! It presents so many opportunities. I'm so happy about the way this photo turned out. Imagine the new ad campaign , "Stay at the Rio. You'll feel like your head is in the clouds."

Lone Butterfly

Yup, still at the Bellagio's Conservatory. There is a mini greenhouse in the Conservatory with plenty of butterflies to enjoy, including Monarch Butterflies.

I don't know about you, but this was a rough week I'm glad it's over. Have a great weekend.

Watering Cans At The Bellagio Conservatory

These watering cans were inspired by the French Gardens of the Château de Chaumont. The watering cans display while decorative, are part of the Bellagio Conservatory's irrigation system.

Spring Tulips At The Bellagio

Beautiful tulips inside the Bellagio Conservatory. Just some of the many flowers on display. This would make a nice backdrop for a family photo.

Happy Easter

These beautiful butterflies are part of the Bellagio's Conservatory, welcoming spring. The Bellagio Conservatory is a must see when you are here in Las Vegas. It is available 24/7 and there is no fee. I went yesterday and enjoyed the fragrant flowers and topiaries. I have more photos from the Conservatory which I will share with you this coming week.

On another note, while it was sad to see the Rebels lose yesterday, it has been a pretty amazing season, ALVDP is proud of the UNLV Rebels, "We'll get 'em next year!"

Happy Easter be safe!

Mini Reb

This photo was taken this season at the Thomas and Mack Arena. This photo probably sums up the Rebs vs the Jayhawks. The UNLV Rebels are very small in stature. Most of the Kansas Jayhawk are at least 6 inches taller. It's halftime, the Rebels are having foul trouble it's been a close game.

Signs Of Change

Back in December I found a Wernicke for State Senate Downtown. I found this sign in the Northwest part of our city. Jim from Terrell Daily Photo featured the Wernicke sign on his blog too. You should check it out, since Wernicke is for change. I wonder who the sign maker is for Wernicke, I would love more info.

Let The Games Begin...

Today is the first day of NCAA Tournament, fondly known as March Madness. I think this day should be a National Holiday. Schools and banks would close, delivery of mail would stop. Fans would gather in pubs, bars and restaurants to watch their favorite team.

I think what lures me in every year is the enthusiasm of these players, playing their hearts out for their school. That's right for their school. They actually run down the court like time is of the essence, not like the NBA stars who almost walk down the court protecting their assets. Sure some players will be drafted by the NBA or a European League, and land a nice contract, but many will just go back to their average life.

This photo was taken this season at one the many UNLV games I attended at Thomas and Mack Arena. Congrats to Coach Krueger and the Rebels on an outstanding win today. I knew you could do it! Saturday will be a tough game against Kansas the #1 seed in the Midwest, but I know you can beat them!

Signs Of Spring Part Deux

Remember they ornamental plum tree a few weeks back? This is from the same tree. With today being the last day of winter I thought I would revisit this tree. Once those pretty pink blossoms are done we have these beautiful red leafed trees.

Dancing With The Stars

Penn Jillette (the talking 1/2 of Penn & Teller) is now a contestant on ABC's Dancing With The Stars which premiered last night. Penn & Teller are magicians that have been performing together for about 30 years. They have a show a the Rio Hotel and Casino. Penn is the chatty one. ADLVP will be cheering for Penn who is by the way an underdog. Never rule out the Underdog...

Big Dog's Draft House

Slainte! An Irish toast it means to your good health. This is what I wish for you today. This is Big Dog's Draft House a local chain, serving their micro brew as well as burgers, pizza's, salads and such. They are considered a casino (because of the number of slot machines) and you are allowed to smoke in there. You'll see signs like these all over Las Vegas since we voted in a law that you could not smoke in restaurants.
Happy St Patrick's Day be safe.

Sheep's Mountain Range

Ok, so remember what I said last week about the temperature being in the 80's? Forgetaboutit.
The forecast called for cooler tempatures and some rain, who knew we would wake up to this. This is part of the Sheep Mountain Range behind my house. This light dusting of snow melted by the afternoon.

McFadden's Pub

Area 108(107.9), a local radio station hosted their liquid lunch at McFadden's Pub inside the Rio Hotel and Casino today. Flogging Molly played a short set. If you haven't heard Flogging Molly's music it's a combination of traditional Irish music and Punk. The sound is phenomenal! The place was packed!
I have some shots of the band but I couldn't seem to get all of them in one photo. So instead you get the countdown sign.
Congratulations to UNLV Men's Basketball team winning the Mountain West Conference!

Outside My Window

With the temps in the 80's this week, this scooter looks inviting. Yesterday, this scooter was outside the building where I work. I like the reflection of it in the mirrored window. You can also see my car in the window too. Have a great weekend!

Go Rebels

I took this photo about a month ago. I though I would post it tonight to celebrate the UNLV Rebels victory, over TCU. Wink Adams always the clutch player in the final seconds of the game. Wink drove the basket, sank the shot, and drew the foul to win the game 89-88. I'm telling you it was great finish to a great game.
Yes, the Mountain West Conference Tournament is underway and in full swing. The Rebels will play again tomorrow night either Utah or New Mexico.

Deerbrooke Farm

This chain link fence at Deerbrooke Farm on Charleston Boulevard, keeps out the riff-raff (like me!) Deerbrooke Farm is owned and operated by a Fireman, selling pumpkins at Halloween and Trees at Christmas. There's an old firetruck there too. This farm sits empty most of the year, we'll have to come back during the holidays.

Under House Arrest

What a show-off this guy was, climbing all over his cage trying to get my attention. He loved being photographed, I believe this is his "best" side. Unlike Silent Bob and Delilah this Plant World inhabitant is not allowed out, not even for good behavior.

Silent Bob

Here's Delilah's neighbor, whom I've named Silent Bob. His perch was right next to hers. He did not have a name and was very shy. He was quite happy allowing Delilah to be the center of attention.

Citzen Of Plant World

14 years ago when we moved to Las Vegas Plant World was THE nursery. There are now more nurseries that are in a convenient locations, but not as fun. Even though it was always out of the way for us, most of the appeal had been the exotic birds that call Plant World home.

Yesterday, I decided drop by and take in all the beautiful plants, while being entertained by the birds. This is Delilah, she is a Goffin and Moluccan Hybrid. Delilah is very chatty and loves attention. Delilah even mimics a child's temper tantrum. For real! She was jumping up and down, on her perch while making that unmistakable whining sound! You know the sound I'm talkin' about, the one that turns the head of every adult within earshot. For some strange reason it was sooo cute when she did it!

Coffee Anyone?

Last night I was perusing The Funk House during First Friday, when this unique coffee mannequin server set caught me eye. Not my best work (photo wise), but the coffee pot on her head, teaspoon earrings, with the strategic placement of the sugarbowl and creamer make her too irresistible to not post. The best part about this is she is actually a lamp! She is the work of artist Joe Clark, who's work is currently showcased at The Fallout Gallery.

A Different Point of View

This light is part of the Main Street Station parking garage, Downtown. What I like about this shot, is the way the people below add so much too it. What's disappointing is that the very tip of the fixture is cut off. Oh well, can't win them all. Have a great weekend!

Here's Lookin' At You Kid!

This is the work of another wheatpaster, I was unable to find out anything about this artist. This eye is also located downtown on Las Vegas Boulevard, staring at me in the morning on my way into work. I think this is some sort of version of the Eye of Providence, and not an Evil Eye. So, the eye drawn in above it, is that graffiti on the poster graffiti?

Street Artist

I googled Shartoof and found out he is a LA street artist. Similar to graffiti, the artists who hang posters are called wheatpasters. (You learn something new everyday!) This image is from Downtown on Las Vegas Boulevard. To see more of his handy work click here.

Ala Cart

This white cart jumped out at me on my most recent Costco excursion. These carts are jumbo sized as is everything in the store. For those of you not familiar with Costco it is warehouse shopping at it's best. And yes I do know that it's ala carte not ala cart, sometimes I just can't help myself.

Shoefiti In Vegas

Captured in the vicinity of Maryland Parkway and Charleston Boulevard, this brings me back to my youth! Apparently this never gets old and NOW there is a name for this yes, it's...shoefiti, Yeah, can you believe it this is actually an art form. Here's some more for you from the old days.

The Calderons' In The Wedding Business...

Who knew! I found this sign on a truck in front of the Calderon bridal shop, it made me instantly think of two brides, one who just got married the other to be married in May. It looks like they have it all at the Casa De Calderon. Located on the east side, the Casa De Calderon is on Charleston Boulevard not far from the Huntridge Theater.

Theme Day Graffiti Or A Street Mural

ALVDP is not officially in this Theme Day due to tardiness, I figured I would "pretend"to participate and see how it goes. I found this mural behind the Opportunity Village Thrift Store, last weekend.Opportunity Village is a non profit organization that aids mentally challenged individuals.
The artist's name and phone number are painted in the left corner, which I called and left a message hoping to learn more about this mural and the artist but to date have not received a response. I chose a mural rather than graffiti because I don't want any problems with Oscar. Check out the City Daily Photo Bloggers graffiti or murals shots from around the world.
