Sausagepalooza 2008

Yesterday we did our annual day after Thanksgiving Swedish sausage making get together a day late. I cut up 18 pounds of meat, beef and pork which gets mixed with oatmeal, onion, garlic and salt. After that I moved up to Sausagepalooza '08 photographer.

This palm tree shadow was right next to the 95 freeway, across from the Santa Fe Station Casino.

Friday, November 28, 2008

One of the things about living in Las Vegas is we have so many cheesy double entendres, we tend to plug on without noticing them. I saw this play on the horse racing/betting term trifecta the other day. Thought you might get a chuckle out of it.

This is the Santa Fe Station a local hotel and casino, located in Las Vegas' northwest just off of the 95 freeway.

Happy Black Friday to all those who do not have to work. Shop until you drop, the economy needs it!

Let Me Be The First To Say...

Happy Thanksgiving! I just thought I would beat the Macy's Santa and kick off the Christmas season with this lamp post and banner photo at the Village of Centennial Springs. In NYC the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is underway, right now I'm only able to get a few glimpses on TV, we will get the tape delay in about an hour (just in time to compete with the NFL). When I was young I remember watching it as my mother was slaving away in the kitchen. Now it's my turn in the kitchen. So how about you, will you be making dinner today?

The Gazebo at the Village of Centennial Springs

Here's the beautiful gazebo in the park at the Village of Centennial Springs. The graffiti I featured yesterday was on the one of the panels inside. Thankfully you can't see it from the outside.

I Guess I'm Not Cool...

I spotted this "cool people" list written on this beautiful gazebo (I'm glad I didn't make the list). Obviously, written by a teenage Mensa member.

This is inside a beautiful gazebo in the Village at Centennial Springs. It's a real shame that the "cool people" had to deface it.

Wild Life in Vegas

A gaggle of geese on Painted Desert's #8 near the 150 marker, feeding on something. Not quite the "wild life" you think of when you think of Las Vegas.

Signs of the Season

I was intent on finding some signs of fall. It's been exceptional warm for us here in Las Vegas, so leaves haven't really started to change. Ok we really don't get "fall colors" like back east and I admit I wasn't really looking for 'em until this past week.

Yesteraday I was driving on west on Lone Mountain driving over the 95 freeway, as I looked to my right I spotted a few trees turning on #8 at Painted Desert Golf Course. Pretty view, it makes me miss golf, I haven't played in probably 7 years maybe it's time to dust off the clubs and get out and play.

Sign of the Times

I'm sure many of you have seen signs like these in your city. I was drawn to these I guess because of the sign in Spanish. I don't know about you but I tend to find handwritten signs on light posts offering some fantastic service, well kinda ...dodgy. I'm sure we will start to hear about people who reach out for help and only to be taken in by some scammer. These are scary times we live in.

Catchy Name

Last month when my husband and I went on the Las Vegas Mob Tour we saw this store while we were on the bus. I thought I've got to come back and check this out. So I stopped by there on my way home from work. Unfortunately, The Male Bag is no longer. What info I found was an empty strip mall storefront with a for rent sign. The Male Bag was once a male clothing store. The Male Bag is off of Sahara behind the Tony Roma's.

Put It Out-My Service Announcement

Yesterday, I tried to get inspiration for today's post but could not. I was just as troubled this morning but managed to find this cigarette butt for inspiration.

Today is the Great American Smoke Out. This is a photo from this morning just before 6:30 AM, this is the ashtray in front of the building where I work.

I will ask all of you who do smoke to give it your all to stop smoking. I know how hard it is, but I KNOW HOW MUCH BETTER YOU WILL BE WITHOUT CIGARETTES!

UNLV's Mascot

This is Hey Reb, the Rebels mascot. Entertaining the crowd during a time out.

Passing the Horn...

This Rebel fan sat a couple of rows in front of us with this obnoxious horn. I got a kick out of watching him and his father. Very rarely do people surprise me, this was one of those occasions. This boy was blowing this horn for quite some time. His dad commandeered the horn from him, and do you think that was the end of the horn blowing? Did he yell at his son? The answer is no to both questions. Instead Dad proceeded to instruct him how to use it during San Diego's free throws. Don't you love it when grown-ups can still act like kids?

You gotta love the tape on the thing holding this family heirloom together.

The Rebelution Has Begun

The pre game ceremonies at the Thomas & Mack always start the Rebels introduction with the pyrotechnics display behind the backboards. UNLV Runnin' Rebels opened their 2008-2009 season against San Diego Toreros with a 65-60 win.

Rebel's Opener

This mini "Mack" is a tribute to UNLV's Thomas & Mack Arena as well as ex Rebel Coach Jerry Tarkanian "Tark the Shark".This tribute was part of the Hammargren's Nevada History Museum. Tark famous for the Ameoba defense, towel biting (as depicted in this rending above) and more importantly the 1990 NCAA Championship.

Later today the UNLV Rebel's have their season opener against San Diego. I can't wait, I'll be going to the game and will have some great shots for tomorrow's post!

This promises to be a great season, I've read conflicted reports about the Reb's ranking I've read 20, 26 and 27. Ranking is a key word here, the Rebels are ranked again! Coach Kruger has done such a great job with the program, I think this is his year. The Rebelution begins today at 2:3o.

Aliante Hotel Lobby

Aliante's Hotel Lobby has a Feng Shui feel to it. Here we have wood one of the five elements represented with these lucky bamboo. I read that eight stalks of bamboo represent wealth and abundance; nine is even better for overall good fortune and happiness.

Beautiful Calla Lillies

Last night we decided to check out our new local hangout Aliante Station. This was day 2 for the casino. The place was packed, I guess it's good to be the new kid on the block.

These beautiful Calla Lillies were nearAliante's new Access Bar. The shade of this flower is close to the orange in the property's color scheme which also includes brown and green.

I got to thinking, I keep seeing this color scheme more and more. These colors and the crappy economy remind me of the 70's. (Atleast we don't have gas lines yet!)

Is there a parallel with color schemes and the economy? Am I on to something? Is history repeating its self?

Aliante Grand Opening

These Grand Opening fireworks, happened just after 10:00 pm PST. I was actually snoozing on the coach when my husband called to tell me to come outside and bring the camera! His batteries died in his camera so he used his cell to call me. What did we do before cell phones? Cell phones blessing or a curse? Good night all.

Birth of a Station

Tonight's the night, the Grand Opening of the Aliante Station Hotel and Casino here in North Las Vegas. This is very exciting for my family and neighbors, we will have some restaurants, movies and gaming close to home.
The Hotel and Casino has hired 1,ooo employees which is good news in these troubled times. This is the 11th Casino in the Station Casinos' group. Fireworks are scheduled for 10:00 pm with the Casino set to open at 11:00 pm (way past my bedtime!)

Yellow and Red Tape

This is my favorite photo from the Hammargren's. This is in his front yard, I was drawn to it the minute I saw the leg taped to the post.

More From Las Vegas' Fun House...

Today we have an old Aladdin Hotel and Casino entrance sign all part of Dr Lonnie Hammargren's house. Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino has replaced it. The Fun House sign is an added bonus.

More Fun at Lonnie Hammargrens

What home would be complete without a roller coaster? Yup, this part of Dr Lonnie Hammargrens' Nevada History Museum. To put things in perspective check out this shot posted at Vegas Daily Vista, this is what you see while driving on Sandhill Road.

Aliens Amongst Us

Yesterday here at ALVDP, I featured a replica of the Russian International Space Station at Dr. Lonnie Hammargren's Nevada History Museum and home. Today I am featuring this close up of one of the Station's CosMOnauts. Ya gotta love it!

Replica of the Russia Space Station

I know this is truly amazing to many, that this is actually part of some one's home...but I swear it is true. This is a shot I took from one of the many peaks within Dr. Lonnie Hammargren's home. It doesn't get any better than this.

Wednesday, November 5, 2008

I spotted these old school change carts while I was at Dr. Lonnie Hammargren's open house. Since the inception of coin less slot machines, these went the way of the dinosaur.

Our nation has elected a new President one who campaigned with a platform of change, lets hope it's not pocket change.

Tuesday, November 4, 2008

Today's the day, I thought it would never arrive. It's truly amazing that any one would want the job of President of the United States of America. I mean really you'd have to be crazy to want to lead us into the next Great Depression. I thought this sign was apropos for this post.

I snapped this photo on Sunday at Lonnie Hammagren's home where he houses his Nevada History Museum. I got some great shots there on Sunday which I will share with you this week as well as the story behind it.

Let's just get today over with. Who do you want to see win?

Without Revealing to Much...

I'm sorry I couldn't bring myself to post the G-String pics, because I'm still going for the "PG" rating. So meet Rico aka Stanley, he sure looks a lot different from his alter ego. Ya think?

I've been thinking about things, and I've come up with this analogy...Strippers and Politicains are alot alike. Sounds crazy, I know but hear me out.

Tomorrow, as Americans we will get our long awaited "big" reveal, after enduring two years of teases we will have elected a new president. As many of you know Strippers and Politicians love money and are quite willing and happy to take your money. They will say and do almost anything to get your money. Which leads me to...

I just wonder if next April 15th we will be as excited when we have to give our money to the IRS. I know maybe instead of that box on the top of our tax return forms where they ask you if you want $1.00 to go the Presidential election campaign fund let's change the question to "Do you want to donate $1.00 to a Presidential Lap Dance fund?" check here.

About Last Night...

Last night my husband and I went to a dinner party at our friend's home. As always there was plenty of ambience, great food and wine. And then Stanley showed up... Stanley the Nerd, Stanley the Nutty Pofessor... Stanley the STRIPPER.

So here's a photo of Stanley before, he got down to "business." I have to tell you with the way the things have been going, Stanley was a welcome distraction from all of our daily troubles.
