What's Brown, Fuzzy & Disgusting?

This Tarantula on my freakin' front walk. Larry was out at our front gate when he called for me to check out what I sure was going to be a stupid bug. This certainly was not what I expected. It just sat there until he kicked at it. I think they are harmless to humans all the same I NEVER want to meet up with this again, I hate spiders and now I feel itchy.

Evening Sky

I shot this last night as we were leaving Aliante Station Hotel and Casino. I liked the way the clouds looked as well as all the lights. This was about 7:00pm just before the sun disappeared. This photo really doesn't do it justice.

Let's Make A Deal

Yup that's right Let's Make A Deal is taped here in Las Vegas, at the Tropicana.Wayne Brady is the host, you probably remember him from the show Drew Carey hosted Who's Line Is It Anyway? I went today with my good friends Emma (lunatic center) and Tony (Dr Nuts right). I am dressed as a Black eyed P.

We had a great time, but the whole process was long. It moved pretty quick in the begining, but I was disappointed once we were in the studio, it took a long time. I thnk the production crew has a lot of kinks to work out. Let's Make A Deal will air it's first show on October 5th. I think we were show 14. I think it will take the cast and crew a few more episodes to work out the kinks and start moving quicker through the process.

Elvis Is In The House

Big Elvis that is! While I was wandering about the Strip when I saw a sign on Bill's Gambling Hall and Saloon of Big Elvis. So, I googled Big Elvis found his website, planning to check out his show in the near future. I was on Facebook when saw that my friend Eva would be in town and that was on her list of things to do, I knew it was a must see.

So I met up Eva yesterday at Bill's Gambling Hall and Saloon where we had a great time shooting Big Elvis, shooting photos that is. In this shot he is singing Suspicious Minds. He puts on a a great show and his voice is amazing he sounds just like the king. The other thing about Big Elvis is that he is 400lbs, and is half, yes I said half his size Congratulations on the major weight loss!

When you're here in Vegas be sure to check his show out at Bill's Monday-Friday 3,5 and 6:30. You'll be glad you did.

Bike Show

So, I just go done watching Sons of Anarchy and started thinking about what I should post so I thought that this would be pretty cool. And wouldn't you know it, the Bike Show is in town. Not the Harley kind of bike but the sleek bicycles you might find in the Tour de France.

Best Bar-B-Que

Not so sure this is the best bar-b-que in Las Vegas, in fact I really don't think I know anyone who has eaten there. I'm thinking Harley Davidson should just stick to motorcycles.

Shot this Jester the other night, this statue is right outside of Harrahs. This is the entrance from the Carnival Court, the area on the Strip between Harrahs and the Imperial Palace. The Carnival Court has shopping, a bar, black jack tables and rockin' music.

I Know Better

I was on my way to the Strip the other night and instead of stopping at a 711 or Walgreens for a Diet Pepsi. I decided I would just wait and buy it on the Strip. Well I know better, I paid $2.95 for a $1.00 bottle of soda. I know better but I had to have it. I should have just waited and bought an ice cold bottle of water for $1.00 from a local entrepreneur on one of the pedestrian bridges.

I was messing around taking a photo of my Diet Pepsi while I was at Caesar's Palace I thought it turned out pretty cool. It's also a reminder to bring my own when I'm wandering around the Strip.

Emmy Nominee

Tonight is the 61st Emmy Awards, and one of my favorite shows 30 Rock has been nominated for 22 awards. The show is a look behind the scenes at the fictional Girly Show a "SNLesque," sketch comedy show. The show gets it's name from the show's prestigious address 30 Rockefeller Plaza. Alec Baldwin plays Jack Donaghy the network executive. Alec Baldwin is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor, the photo today is of his hands at another prestigious address 3500 Las Vegas Boulevard, Planet Hollywood the Strip.

Mt Charleston Hill Climb

Today was the 24th Annual Mt Charleston Hill Climb, let me tell you it looked pretty tough. Larry, Suzie and I drove up to check it out and get a few shots. The finish line was at Lee Canyon Ski Resort, yes that's right ski resort, Las Vegas has it all. Lee Canyon is about 45 minutes from the Strip.
Congratulations to Deb (in picture) and Demitri for making it top!

ALVDP Career Week Part 5

From Reality Show to Peep Show fame. Holly Madison Hef's ex a star on the Strip. Sure beats the human billboard don't you think. Happy Friday. Have a great weekend.

ALVDP Career Week Part 4

This is by far the worst job on the strip, human billboard. I imagine the conversation between the mother and of one of these guys going something like this. Hi Mom, I got a job today. That's great Johnny, what are you doing? Well, uhm, Mom uhm I'm in advertising. Advertising fantastic, I can't wait to tell your Dad, and imagine he said you would never amount to anything. I know its not exactly Madison Avenue but you've got to start somewhere, so which account did you get Johnny? Well Mom it's not quite like you think, you need to kinda think outside of the box I mean billboard.

ALVDP Career Week Part 3

This is the Stone Man, a street performer on the Strip. ALVDP has featured the Stone Man before in 2007 . He wasn't dressed like a Firefighter and was handing out lollipops to kids. He was handing out free drink coupons this night.

ALVDP Career Week Part 2

What do you do for a living in Vegas? I work on the Strip, I'm an entertainer. Which show are you in? Well, it's not really a show so to speak...I dance in the pit at the Flamingo for tourists. Mostly for the crowd passing by on the sidwalk outside, they seem to enjoy it. Notice any thing else? How about the TV screens on the stage. Talk about ADD, we've thought of just about everything you might need to keep you distracted while gambling alcohol, sports and dancers.

ALVDP Career Week Part 1

Have the Monday blues? Dreading your workday? It could be worse, you could be standing out on Las Vegas Boulevard, handing out "Hoochie" cards to tourists. Thinking how hard can it be?There's a whole technique to this called the smack and flick. Not sure if this is for you, check out the video of Corey Levitan giving this job a shot. This is my favorite of his Fear and Loafing series in the LVRJ.

It's On!

It's officially Football season. In Vegas there is no sport bigger than football. Football betting is the biggest money maker for Casino's Sports Books. I took this shot outside of Planet Hollywood last night.

Garage Sale

Buy my junk, I mean treasures. I've been up since about 5:00am in preparation for the community garage sale. So far I've sold paint, a chair and some clothes.

I look forward to this every year, it's my own little sociology experiment. For example the demographic has changed over that last few years. It used to be that you would only see the fanny pack crowd. Today I have had many savvy shoppers, women carrying designer purses as well as the fanny pack crowd. Their transportation has evolved too, it used to be only the hooptys would come by but not the case any more. The last few years I've seen late model Lexus, Infinity and the latest Nissans.

So what is the common thread between these shoppers? They want a bargain!

Let's talk about my neighbors, they have even have furniture out and haven't sold a thing. You have to price to sell and be prepared to haggle. No room for sentiment, no one cares how hot you looked in that dress, or that you really loved that tea pot,nor do they care what you paid for something. This is about giving the people what they want...a bargain.

Update I just sold a curtain rod for 5o¢ I was asking $1.00. The shopper feels like she took me to the cleaners, and she did in a sense. She just helped clean up my garage!

So what have we learned? People from all walks of life have one thing in common they like a bargain. Come on no one likes to pay full price! The economy sucks but people still like to buy stuff.

Best sale of the day? It's a toss up between the moldy old lifesaver vest and the 23 year old Harley Davidson Tshirt! You decide.

A Little Bit Of Happiness

8 years ago, I was watching Good Morning America I sat on the edge of my bed stunned as the 2nd plane hit the 2nd tower. I will never forget the terrible events of that day and the sadness for those who lost their lives on that day.

Days like today and when I feel sad I know that when I get home I can always count on Suzie to help cheer me up and make me feel better about life in general. Maybe we should all try to be the person that our dog thinks we are for more than one day.

It was back to work today for most of us after a nice long 3 day holiday weekend. And back to school for many students.

This champagne bottle was Downtown in the Arts District.

Magic Bus

Fremont Street's Summer of Love Celebration is winding down. I just had to feature the Hippie Nation bus. Hope you are having a great weekend. We're off to brunch with friends, till tomorrow.

Saturday, September 5, 2009

Coming to Vegas this weekend? I'm sure you'll send some time in one of these. Be sure and bring plenty of money with you to stimulate our economy. (Oops, I mean the economy).

You'll find this sign Downtown on Fremont Street at the Golden Gate Hotel and Casino. This weekend is final Summer of Love Celebration. There will be plenty of entertainment on the Fremont Street Stages tonight will feature Canned Heat and tomorrow night Three Dog Night will be performing as well as Tribute Bands.

I think about the first time I saw Fremont Street which was 22 years ago today, when we drove up from Orange County to get married! It was an amazing sight, and even when I see it now 22 years later it's still just as amazing.

Happy Anniversary Larry, here's to double or nothing.

My Favorite.

This is my favorite light display in Las Vegas. What I like about this is that you don't have to be on the Strip to see it. Think about it, you really can't see too much neon from the 15 you have to be on the Strip to take it all in. When I used to work on Flamingo and Eastern I used to jump on the 95 to go home, I would see the Binion's Parking Garage from the freeway, it was my beacon signaling I would be home shortly.

I have been Downtown a million times and kept over looking this shot I finally got it. Have a happy yet safe holiday weekend.

Sunrise Vegas Style

I took this yesterday morning just before 6:30am. This was shot from the parking lot of Spring Valley Hospital on Rainbow Blvd and Hacienda. I really didn't have much time to think about lining up the shot I just started shooting. Hence, the light posts.

This was shot in RAW, I did not edit this shot, the only change I made was saving it as a JPEG file. Blogger does not support RAW files. So what does this mean? Well, this is the way the sunrise looked here in Vegas.

One Wish

Yesterday's post was CDP's Monthly Theme Day Big. I had talked about the Tom Hank's movie Big. While I was wondering the Strip the other night I found this Zoltar fortune teller machine just like the one in big. Except this one has been hit by wheatpasters. This Zoltar is in front of a strip mall next door to Encore.

Do you remember the scene when he found the machine and wished he was a kid again? That scene was filmed at Rye Beach Playland, not far from where I grew up. I can remember making the annual trip there to ride the Dragon Coaster and the Monster Mouse over and over again.

Which leaves me thinking if I had one wish what would it be? How about wish and only one wish what would it be?

Here's a trivia question, what Glen Close movie featured a scene with Playland's Dragon Coaster?

Theme Day Big

Here it is Theme Day again. I can hardly believe summer is just about over. Kids everywhere are going back to school this month. As I contemplated this theme big, I kept thinking about the Tom Hanks movie Big you know the one where he's a kid and wishes he was "big."

Do you remember the scene inside F. A. O. Schwarz? The one where he meets up with his boss and they play chopsticks on the big keyboard. Here is the big Trojan horse that graces the entrance to F. A. O. Schwarz right here in Las Vegas, inside of Caesar's Palace.

Check out the rest of City DailyPhoto Blogger's interpretation of big here:Click here to view thumbnails for all participants
