My Favorite Tree

I pass this tree every workday as I cut thru Sunrise Hospital's parking lot on my to and from work. Last year stopped and took a photo of this tree and posted it almost exactly on the same date. And no I did not plan it. What is interesting is that I had commented on the tempature being in the 70's last year at this time, low and behold weather forecasters are predicting a beautiful weekend ahead and you guessed it in the 70's. Happy Friday!

Double Trouble

I stopped after work today to shoot a couple of pics of my favorite tree, when I heard and then saw these air ambulances. One just dropping off a patient and taking off to allow the other to land with it's patient. I've seen these helicopters land at Sunrise Hospital at least a 100 times before, but never anything like this. Seeing 2 in a row was a first, and I don't have to tell you that 2 patients being transported to a hospital with a Trauma Center within in seconds of each other can't be good.

I've yet to hear on the news what happened.

Signs of Spring?

Today was nice and warm in the high 60's but pretty windy here in Las Vegas. Looking at this mural it seems like spring will soon be on it's way. It was really windy here today, my husband and I always say that once the wind stops blowing here in Vegas it's summer. (100° or more!)

This vine can be found off of Maryland Parkway not far from Charleston.

Las Vegas Zoo

Just repainted last week I watched each day as the artist's work progressed on my way home from work. I think he did a nice job.

Yes we even have a zoo, and no I have not been there. The Las Vegas Zoo is on Rancho I imagine it's pretty high on Las Vegas' elementary school's list of class trips.

Crown Electric

This is the Crown Electric on East Charleston. This is where last week's urban desert is in the additional rear parking lot.

Yet another place I won't see on my commute to work starting late next month.

24/7

The first Crown Electric Tattoo Parlor just off of Las Vegas Blvd.. Pretty cool building don't you think.

Blue

Blue, blue, blue everywhere blue! Today I am actually out of town at a baby shower for my Fabulous Niece Adrianne. Can you guess the sex of the baby by this photo? Let me know if you need another hint!

ABC Bail Bonds

Hopefully, you won't need to ever use a bail bondsman, but here is ABC Bail Bond on the Corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Gass Avenue. As you can tell they have been there a while. I'm thinking that the name is new. Happy Friday.

Added Bonus!

Stenciled on a wall behind the Crown Electric Tattoo parlor (is it parlor or shop? I don't know am I showing my age by calling it a tattoo parlor?) I found this when I stopped to shoot yesterday's photo.

I can't figure out if the man resembles Gomez Adams, Adolf Hitler or Barack Obama. You decide!

The Urban Desert

I was stopped at a traffic light on my way to work this morning when I spotted this interesting mural behind the Crown Electric Tattoo parlor on Charleston in the additional parking lot. Note to self: I need to come back after work to shoot this mural. So that was exactly what I did.

My commute will be changing in about a month. I thought I had better shoot all the things I see and have said to myself I need to shoot that some day. Carpe Diem!

R.I.P.

Today's photo is of our cat Nate. Taken last March by my husband Larry, this photo has always been my favorite of Nate, we always said he looked like he was singing. Sadly, Nate passed on today and will surely be missed.

Nate in his 13+ years added much joy to our family. He had a lot of weird ticks but we learned to live with them and him. Nate didn't like you to pet him but liked you to gently tug his tail, you couldn't leave an unattended alcoholic beverage around him because he would help himself to your drink.

To outsiders he was the quintessential grumpy old man, Nate could (and would) stare down anyone. He let the dog know who was in charge, and made Curly (our other cat) form an alliance against Suzie and all dogs. Humans sleeping in on the weekends never happened on his watch, a couple of pokes from him let you know you had better get up to feed him.

So here's to you Little Buddy, may you find nothing but twist ties, catnip and fresh cold water in the afterlife.

In Case You Forgot...

This is Vegas, and that's the sun. This is one from the archives I took a few weeks ago. This building is on Casino Center and Charleston. Right now it's raining and I didn't want my camera soggy.

Fish Out Of Water

Another great find yesterday on the northwest side of Las Vegas. Something tells me this fish out of water belongs to a an avid fisherman.

Happy Valentine's Day

From 2 sweethearts, on the northwest side of Las Vegas. These 2 Shetland ponies were quite friendly and ready to strike a pose for me today. Today turned out to be a beautiful day, rain was predicted but so far so good. The temperature read 56° in the car, I enjoyed a patio lunch with a friend this afternoon and it felt more like 70°.
Happy Valentines Day.

A Different Perspective...

Wynn & Encore, this was shot from Desert Inn (DI) and Maryland Parkway. Probably not a side of Las Vegas you would see as a tourist. I think I could get a better angle if not pressed for time. Happy Friday the 13th!

Davy's Locker

I love this sign. Davy's Locker opened in the '70's and located on Desert Inn(DI to locals) near Maryland Parkway. Davy's Locker claims to be the best "dive bar" in Las Vegas. Like I said I love the the sign, I'll take their word on the best dive bar claim.

We're Not Just Sinners...

Some Las Vegans are saints. I say this because as many of you already know President Obama has dissed Las Vegas and pissed off our Mayor Oscar Goodman. The controversy is over the remarks Obama made about Goldman Sachs and Wells Fargo sending employees to Las Vegas for a meeting, on the taxpayer's dime. Both companies have cancelled, along with State Farm. Which hurts our economy.

Mayor Goodman not one to hold his tongue fired off a letter demanding an apology. Will he or won't he remains to be seen. Since I'm a Las Vegan I am willing to bet he won't apologize. I wonder too, what stance the Culinary Union will take since they backed Obama and now there will be less rooms to clean, fewer guests to serve meals to and less suitcases to schlep to rooms .

Where is Homeboy Harry Reid? Doesn't this offend him? At least Oscar Goodman has a set and is passionate about our city. I applaud him for his actions .

The photos taken downtown on 3rd Street. Next to Snicks Bar the city's oldest gay bar. (After all it is Las Vegas.)

Hey Mo...

That's how most of my phone calls start out, it seems everyone is a Three Stooges Fan. Last night it was a friend and co-worker on the other end of the line calling to see where I was and if I had my camera with. (Silly girl of course I had my camera!) "Hey Mo check out the moon it's beautiful you've got to get a picture." Well I took her advice and stopped to photograph the moon. Thanks for the tip.

Look What the Rain Left Behind

This morning started out soggy again. We had a break for a while, and look how beautiful the Sheep Mountain range looks. I took this shot this afternoon about 4:00pm. I had to stop by a friends house on my way home and thought what a nice view.

It's not raining now but it is windy and cold. I haven't heard the forecast for tomorrow yet but I'm thinking there may still be a chance for so more rain.

Smoke 'em if ya got 'em

Fake believe incense, with a beautiful pagoda and lanterns in the background. This Chinese New Year theme will be up until the end of this month.

Chinese Lantern

A lantern inside the Bellagio's Conservatory, no outside shots yet. It's raining here in Las Vegas, it started yesterday around 2:00pm. Not very hard put enough to screw up the ride home. Since, I'm just getting over being sick I passed on going to First Friday last night I didn't feel like getting soggy.

Playful Pandas

Three playful panda topiaries at the conservatory. The cub climbing the bamboo is my favorite. Thinking about going to First Friday tonight if the weather isn't too bad, there's going to be a Sholin Kung Fu Chan on the Land Rover Stage at 7:00 that sounds pretty cool. Happy Friday.

Chinese God of Wealth and Fortune

This 18 foot tall Chinese God of Wealth and Fortune is a focal point for this year's display. Still under the weather today but back at work. Happy Thursday.

Lucky Coin

Part of the Chinese New Year display at the Bellagio's conservatory. I'm under the weather don't have to much to say today.

Lanterns

I just love these beautiful red lanterns and love the way this shot turned out. This is of course at the Bellagio's conservatory. I was doing some research on why the color red and found out that in the Chinese culture it denotes fire which can drive away bad luck.

I think the next time I decide to gamble I will wear red and see what happens.

Year Of The Ox

While there are many things that I love about living in Las Vegas, the conservatory inside the Bellagio is pretty much at the top of my list. This year's Chinese New Year display is fantastic. Check out this Ox topiary pretty cool.

Today is Theme Day again, Path and Passages. My photo is a maze along the City of North Las Vegas, Trail Phase II, off Simmons between Ann and Washburn. Check out the rest of City Daily Bloggers her:
