Box Office Windows Part 2

This is my favorite window at the Box Office. Love the paint brushes and the artists palette.

Cracked Tile

I notice this a few weeks ago when I was at the Bellagio. This is outside the main entrance near the fountain. Pretty cool don't you think.

Poets Bridge

The Lewis Avenue Corridor Poets Bridge located Downtown next to the Fifth Street School, features excerpts from 20 different Nevadan Poets. Many have walked across it but probably haven't noticed this artwork engraved in the concrete.

Alligator

This is one of two statues at the entrance to the Bellagio's pool. I'm thinking that its some sort of Asian alligator. Any ideas?

What You Lookin' At?

I spent the other day with my family checking out different things here in Las Vegas. As we wandered around the Bellagio I was drawn to this statue. How cool is he? I believe this is made of wood, he is pretty awesome don't you think?

This is a long weekend for Americans, Memorial Day is Monday. Long weekends are what life is about, have a great one.

How will you celebrate it?

A Fabulous Mural

I was out with my family on Sunday, giving them the ALVDP tour and we came across this new mural. ALVDP follower will remember the whole wall of graffiti I posted in January, this is on the same building facing 1st Street just off of Coolidge. I was blown away when I saw this

Happy Belated Birthday

The Welcome To Fabulous Las Vegas Nevada Sign, celebrated a birthday last week. This Las Vegas icon turned 50, which is a milestone in Las Vegas! Here in Las Vegas we are a city that does not hold on to it's history, buildings are imploded to make way for new ones. Yet this Las Vegas icon has managed to make it to the big Five-0, here's to 50 more years.

Straight Up

Here's two of three hot air balloons in the Bellagio Conservatory's summer display. Shot looking straight up. I love hot air balloons but I would never go up in one, too much of scaried cat. I'm not sure I'd like looking down from a great height.

Finished Product

It's amazing to see the finished product. It's amazing how much work goes into the Bellagio's Consevatory displays. I spoke with the women while they were working on it, they told me that they check the flower everyday and they are rotated out once a week.

Beginning

I shot this yesterday at the Bellagio's Conservatory, this employee was working away to meet the 5:00pm deadline to open the new summer display. Tomorrow I'll have the finished
product.

Lone Balloon

This morning I met up with ALDP's fan Eva who's in town for a 50th birthday party today. I hosted a 50th birthday brunch today as well. We met up at the Bellagio, so we could check out the exhibit. They were in the process of changing the exhibit so we got to see "how they do it". We had a wonderful breakfast and a great time shooting at the Bellagio. Always looking for something different I spotted this balloon, (which reads Happy Birthday) trapped at the top of the conservatory.

One Fish, Two Fish...

Cool Fish, Blue Fish. A blue swordfish in the desert, you don't see that everyday. This whimsical mail box located in the Rancho Nevada Estates is more of Las Vegas Artist Sandy Scheller's work. How much fun is that to pick up your mail from a swordfish. It sure beats what we have a generic, boxy, communal mailbox. Happy Friday have a great weekend.

Glass Faces

I shot this photo over in Rancho Nevada Estates a few weeks ago. This fabulous glass sculpture is an original by Las Vegas Artist Sandy Scheller.

You Look Like A Million Bucks!

Here's Flat Stanley at Binion's posing with the million dollar display. Flat Stanley is a project for my neice Sarah's 2nd grade class. Flat Stanley spent 2 weeks in Las Vegas for a Fabulous adventure, and now is back in New Fairfield, CT with lots of pictures and stories to share Sarah's fellow 2nd graders.

I had to convince "keeper" of the money to let Stanley on the table, hence not my best work. Apparently, the display is just for drunken tourists to pose with and not inanimate objects.

Also at Centennial Hills Park entrance. I took this with my new 50mm lens, which I've yet to master but starting to show signs of improvement.

Lizard King

This lizard sculpture is located on Tenaya at the Centennial Hills Park. I noticed him today on the way to the dog park. I decided to stop on my way back from the hospital this afternoon.

As far as my mother goes she is improving, and I must say they are taking good care of her. I hope to have her home in a few days.

My laptop has been revived from the dead!! WIFI and all now the Desktop can't seem to find the network. Always something.

Mother's Day

One from the archives, this is a picture of my mom. It's about 2 years old, I took with my handy dandy easy share Kodak, a few weeks before I started this blog. I remember this day like it was yesterday, it was beautiful sunny September afternoon and my mother still able to walk without assistance. I dragged her out Palm Mortuary's 9/11 memorial, (which if you can't tell she hated every minute of it!) The memorial had a flag with each victim of 9/11's name on it, and some even included their story. So here is mine.

My mother is the reason I started blogging. I used to drag her with me, to get a picture and to see more of our city. In my complete and utter denial, I brought her with me hoping to jump start or get a spark of her old self. You see she has dementia, (she likes to call it "old age") a disease that sucks the life out of you.

She stopped coming with me early on and ALVDP became an escape from the disease for me. ALVDP gives my something to focus on, a distraction from watching my mother succumb to this crappy disease.

Today, after a very early morning trip to Centennial Hills ER yesterday, she is now lying in a hospital bed with a horrible kidney infection amongst other things. I'm not sure how this is going to play out. Please keep her in your prayers.

I am still plagued with computer problems, which is why I missed the last 2 days.

Who's Your Daddy?

Dad's Bail Bonds on Commerce Street. I decided to post this after listening to the news. They were talking about banks and their stress tests. I find this all very confusing as I remember that Bank of America's Chairman was just interviewed about a week ago saying they will be ready to pay the TARP money back shortly.

I wish I could go to to Dad to bail us out of this mess, but sometimes you just have to grow up and accept your fate.

Miquel Rodriguez's Australopthecus in Repose

We were wondering around the Arts District during First Friday and decided to make a stop at The Fallout Gallery. The Fallout Gallery is in the Commerce Street Studios on the outer edge of the Arts District. I was thrilled to see that Miguel's work was still there. (I had an email that he would be there until 4/24/09)

I dedicate this post all of ALVDP's fans who work in the Heart Rooms around the Vegas Valley, (You know who you are. ) This is a reminder of how many lives you have changed and saved!!
The amazing thing is up close it looks like a Corvette , red, fiberglass and sparklelie.)

Enough said this is a giant heart , I just want to let everyone know how great they have been.

Pyramid Hats

This shot is from First Friday, I'm not sure what the hats were about but all the same they were pretty cool. It was a lovely night for First Friday and I have some great shots to share with you this week.

Still no laptop, it's in the hands of the Geek Squad hopefully they can save her.

Here's to a New week.

This beautiful rose is inside the Rancho Nevada Estates community. I got the tour from my friend MSS about 2 weeks ago. I've got a bunch of shots to share from that afternoon that I managed to salvage from my laptop. I hope to have up and running by Tuesday. I can't believe how much I miss it and depend on it.

Petrified

Found on the Northwest side of Las Vegas another fabulous archaeological find a petrified tire. Another fine example of just how green Las Vegas is.
