Inside the Opera House

Getting ready for a Sunday Matinee at the Amargosa Opera House. We got the chance to preview the Opera House before the show. The murals were all hand painted by Marta Becket. Over the course of 4 years Marta painted the murals so she would have an audience to dance for.

She's an Angel Now...

Last night after 5 1/2 years of living with dementia, my dear sweet Mother passed on. She's an angel now.

Good bye Mom, I'll miss you terribly. I'll always remember the day I took this picture of you and your $10 milkshake. We were both so happy. I just don't know what else to say.

Post Cards From The Edge of California

We made the trip to Death Valley Junction, about 1 1/2 hours outside of Las Vegas. That's right 1 1/2 hours that's all it took to travel back in time. What's in Death Valley Junction you say? The Amargosa Opera House of course!

Year of the Tiger Part 2

Chinese New Year

You may or may not know but the Chinese New Year celebration lasts 15 days. Right now we are at about the halfway mark. This is a shot of the Dragon during the Dragon dance at the Venetian.

Wedding Crashers

Rule #2 Never use your real name. That's right I'm a Wedding Crasher! This couple was getting married at the Venetian on the Ponte al di Piazza last Saturday. I couldn't resist taking a couple of shots of the happy couple.

Silver Slipper

Today's shoe is none other than the Silver Slipper. The Silver Slipper, a Strip casino open from 1960-1988. Since leaving the Strip, this Slipper called the Neon Boneyard home until 5 months ago. The restored Silver Slipper now graces the Las Vegas Cultural Corridor, Downtown.

I got to see the Slipper last year during the Photojojo Safari , it was a bit "scuffed up". A few years earlier Wayne Newton had put his his foot thru it near the bow during a photo shoot. Thanks to the folks at the Neon Museum it has been restored for all to enjoy.

Mardi Gras Shoes

It seems I picked a very busy week for shoe week. Let's see there has been Valentine's Day, Chinese New Year, Presidents Day and now Fat Tuesday; Mardi Gras. This show belongs to a Harrah's Jester statue, located at the entrance to the the hotel lobby.

A red high heel graces ALVDP today for shoe week. You can find this red shoe Downtown at Fremont Street East. Happy Valentine's Day and Happy New Year to every one who celebrates Chinese New Year!

Once upon a time before Super Mario Brothers was even a twinkle in a developer's eye, there was Pinball. This was how we entertained ourselves. This is a shot inside the Pinball Hall of Fame on Tropicana.

Super Bowl XLIV

Today is the long awaited Super Bowl. The Colts vs The Saints, it promises to be quite an exciting game. I'm rooting for Peyton Manning and the Colts to win, however if Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints win that's cool too. The halftime show's headliner will be The Who (one of my favorite bands. Yesterday we went to the Pinball Hall of Fame and I saw this Pinball Wizard machine I thought this would be a good post for today.

Go Red for Women 2010

Today is national Go Red Day, Americans are wearing red to draw attention to heart disease in women. I shot this red dress out at Las Las Vegas, I thought it looked alot like the Heart Association's red dress. Happy Friday, enjoy your weekend!

For the Birds

Parrots outside of Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville, at the Flamingo on the Strip. You can get your picture taken with them on your shoulder. They don't seemed to get spooked by all the curious onlookers.

This shot is an emblem on the side of an old TV Repair van. Yes, that's right your eyes aren't playing tricks on you. A TV Repair van . Remember those? Remember when people used to repair things instead of throwing things away? Yeah, it seems like eons ago.
