Here's a glimpse into tomorrow's City Daily Photoblogger's Theme Day post "Statue", do you see the statue? You'll have to look closely. This is part of the arm rest from the mosaic couch in Rhyolite, NV entitled "Sit Here". See if you can catch it, if not you will have to tune in tomorrow to see it.

Sit Here!
This mosaic couch is part of the Goldwell Open Air Museum in ghost town of Rhyolite, Nevada. This piece is titled Sit Here and is the creation of Sofia Siegmann. Originally created for the Lied Discovery Children's Museum in Las Vegas in 2000. The Goldwell Open Air Museum brochure says that Sit Here was rescued in 2007 restored and reinvisioned at Goldwell in 2007.
I don't know about you but the fact that word rescued when describing a piece of art work is quite disturbing. I makes me feel that Las Vegas is devoid of culture.

Happy Burro
The Happy Burro in fabulous Beatty, Nevada about 100 north of Las Vegas. Serving Chili, Chili Fritos and Chili dogs and of course cold drinks. We stopped here on Sunday and sampled a bowl of chili on the patio where they have a small stage for a band. There was a biker guy playing his guitar and singing.
While were there we watched the Nye County Sheriff's pull over about 3 different drivers for speeding. So if you are going to Beatty you had better watch your speed.

Double Take
Miss Suzie's wild, wild west. This is obviously the RV Park at the LongStreet Hotel & Casino. Suzie is so gracious to pose for us in the middle of the desert like this.

I'm not exactly sure why I have not featured this mural before. I just never seemed to get a shot I liked . Sometimes you don't need the whole scene to "get the picture". You will find these eyes on the building directly behind the Arts Factory in 18b.

I took a few months ago. An old abandoned house with in the Arts District,Civic Center and Coolidge.(It may be gone by now). Happy Saturday.

If These Walls Could Talk
A couple of weeks ago Larry and I went to Death Valley to check out the wildflowers. We woke up early and drove out to the desert, we stopped at the LongStreet Casino for a nice hearty breakfast. As we were leaving the casino I spotted this brochure for "If These Walls Could Talk" in the lobby. As you know we are HUGE FANS of Sandy Scheller, Marta Becket and of course the Amaragosa Opera House.
If you haven't seen the show you had better get out there. There are only 2 weekends left this season. ALVDP will be out there this weekend so come out and join us to join in all the fun!

Happy Earth Day

Flop House for Birds
Over the years I have passed by this birdhouse on Rancho Drive, not far from the Chicago Hot Dog stand. I had made a mental note to stop sometime and get a few shots. I'm sure glad that I did. I can't tell you how many times I've said to myself "I'll stop and get a shot of this some other time" and come to find out something is gone. So the moral of this story is there is only one now, so I've chose to live in the moment.

Happy 420
Not my holiday, but many people celebrate 420 so whatever! I found this WHATEVER sticker, wheatpasting or whatever you want to call it, Downtown on Fremont Street East. This was on the back of No Parking Sign.
Did you know that whatever was voted the most annoying word according to a Marist College poll.(Shout out to my Brother and Sister in law's alma mater).

Wildflowers
Wildflowers overlooking Death Valley's Badwater Basin. These wildflowers (to me) look like weeds. If they were in my backyard I would pull them and throw them in the trash.

Zabriskie Point
This was our first stop inside Death Valley National Park, Zabriskie Point. This shot reminds me of Duncan Hines Marble Cake Batter. I bet you've never thought cake batter could look this good!

Daylight Pass
Yesterday we ventured out to Death Valley to check out the wildflowers. This year we've seen so much rain that it should be a banner year for wildflowers. We had a great time it was about 90°, which isn't so bad but very windy. The wind made it very difficult to photograph anything let alone flowers. I did manage to get a few decent shots. Anyway, this is a catcus blossom that found on Daylight Pass Road. I didn't realize that I cause a bee hard at work inside until I downloaded this photo!

If at First You Don't Succeed...Try,Try Again.
I spotted this sign at the corner of Durango and Oso Blanco.I don't know about you but it always seems like there is some kind of election going on here in Vegas. This candidate ran for our State Senate in '08 you can check out signs from his campaign here. Mr Wernicke must have an axe to grind if wants into public office so bad. You couldn't pay enough!

UFO Mecca
Yes this is UFO Mecca, and wouldn't you know it not photographer friendly. This is one of the signs that greet you at the perimeter of Area 51, trust me they MEAN BUSINESS. On the hill to the right we were being watched by the Cammo Dudes, just waiting for us to cross the "line". Instead of crossing the "line" we are probably on some sort of black list!

The "Black Mailbox"
That's the "Black Mailbox" which is now the white mailbox. This mailbox is key finding to Area 51 .The mailbox is at the intersection of the Extraterrestrial Highway and (you guessed it) Mailbox Road. You turn off here and drive on unpaved roads to find UFO Nirvana, Area 51.

Theme Day Red

This is the stop sign at the intersection of Highway375 The Extraterrestrial Highway and the turn off for Area 51. Notice the bullet holes? On our ride out to Rachel, NV we noticed most of the signs along the highway were riddled with bullets.
Anyway back to Theme Day, this month's theme is red. Check out the rest of the City Daily Bloggers take on the color red here: Click here to view thumbnails for all participants.
