21

The Best Dam BBQ had an added bonus, a classic car show in the adjacent park. There weres lots of cars with really shiney paint jobs and really cool detals. That's all good, but my favorite was this VW 21 Window Micro Bus, appropriated dubbed BlacJak.

Best Dam BBQ

Yesterday we went out to Boulder City to check out the Best Dam BBQ contest. This is a shot of one of the BBQ teams  logos. I tasted some of the best BBQ brisket ever. I ate too much as did Larry and of course our  dog Suzie. It was a nice way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

Bingo

I may have to check this out I was just saying that I hadn't been to Bingo in along time. Most casinos have special give aways on Holidays. The thing I like about Bingo is you can play for an hour with out losing your shirt.

Girls' Night Out

The much anticipated Sex and the City 2, is finally here. Across the country women will put on their favorite stilettos, sip Cosmos and hang out with their sista's just to catch up with their favorite girlfriends. This surely will be by far The Girls Night Out, of the year. This is just one of the many partys here in Las Vegas, check out Las Vegas Weekly's "Sex and this City" for more events.

I thought this shot was hysterical because of the Senior Plus Wednesdays on the marquee. Aliante Station is right next to Sun City an over 55 community, I wonder how this Sex in the City party will be. I may have to pop in and check it out.

STAB THE PRINCESS

So I found this wheatpasting downtown on Main Street not far from the Attic. It's been pretty much hit or miss finding info about the wheatpastings I've found around Las Vegas, file this one under hit. STAB THE PRINCESS is the work of Ryen McPherson the producer of Bum Fights. Bumfights, the controversial videos of  homeless fighting each other for booze or money. Anyway this was such a bizarre wheatpasting that I couldn't pass it up.

This recycled parking meter with a funky face lift is one seven meters revamped to serve as donation stations. The donation stations were created with the hope that people would donate some spare change to help the homeless.

Doggie Bag

Gives new meaning to the term doggie bag. I shot this out at the Iron Girl race last Saturday I can't believe I almost forgot this one! This pooch was so cute and so well behaved with all the commotion.

Garage Mirror

I found this traffic mirror in a parking garage downtown. It's windy here again so the temperatures have dropped and allergies are up. Oh well when the wind stops it is sure to be hotter than hell!

Slidin' Thru

The latest rage in Las Vegas is Slidin' Thru, the food truck with a comic book superhero motif. Slidin' Thru is cooking up fresh, delicious gourmet sliders while you wait. You can order the Barbie, Pep Pep, Ya Ya and the Captain's Order and sweet potato fries with sugar. I had the Barbie twice, the Barbie slider has cheddar, caramelized jalapeƱo, crispy onions, BACON (who doesn't love bacon) topped with delicious bbq sauce trust me this combination is fabulous! Don't let the jalapeƱos scare you away, their subtle kick compliments the other ingredients instead of overpowering.

So you're wondering  "where can I get me some?" Slidin' Thru's location changes daily so you will need get their location from their website, Facebook or Twitter. We caught them at Liberace Museum and at First Friday.

This 1986 costume is a salute to Lady Liberty's restoration or 100 year "face lift" if you will. Liberace wore this outfit during his Radio City Music Hall performance.

It seems that everyone I talk to remembers this outfit. To me it screams Wonder Woman and Richard Simmons had a wild  weekend in Las Vegas. What do you think?

Liberace's 91st Birthday Extravaganza

Librace's wax image on loan from Madame Tussauds' Museum inside the Venetian Hotel and Casino. Sunday we went to join in Liberace's 91st birthday celebration. In honor of his birthday, admission to the museum was a mere $3.50 per person. Outside the museum the Slidin' Thru Crew served up their tasty gourmet slider faire, while inside the Liberace Museum Cafe visitors were treated to awesome confections from the Retro Bakery! We had  such a great time, definate a must see!

Helldorado Fireworks

Saturday night we ventured out to catch the Fireworks over Downtown's Helldorado Days Parade. I can't remember the last time I had been to a parade. It was a warm beautiful night with the usual cast of Las Vegas characters.

Iron Girl Lake Las Vegas

Spectators at the Iron Girl Triathlon, just before the cycle transition area. 800 women competed yesterday, in the 800 meter swim, 18 mile cycling and 5 K run to raise money for  pediatric cancer. The oldest woman was 74 years old and a breast cancer survivor, quite inspiring. I went to cheer on an old high school friend who completed for the first time.

San Gennaro

The San Gennaro Feast is huge in NYC and runs the last 2 weeks in September every year in Little Italy. This past weekend we had the San Gennaro Feast here in Las Vegas.  It is a tradition to pin dollar bills to the statue and say a prayer. So that's what I did.

Steam Powered Giraffe

This is Steam Powered Giraffe performing outside of the Brett Wesley Gallery during First Friday. Steam Powered Giraffe is an interesting group of performers combing music with pantomime. They were quite entertaining.

Steam Powered Giraffe attracted quite a crowd which believe it or not had the gallery manager in a tizzy. I guess she doesn't "get" First Friday.

18b at Night

We spent last night wandering around and soaking in all that 18b, the Las Vegas Arts District has to offer during First Friday. We had a great time as always and I've managed to find lots of interesting things to photograph. So lets kick it off with this shot of the 18b sign lit up! The 18b sign was featured here on ALVDP in December before it was dedicated, big difference between night and day don't you think?

Body Parts Wall Mandalay Bay

This is a shot of a foot at Mandalay Bay's body parts wall. The wall is near the restaurant section of the hotel and casino. I have a thing about feet, I wish people would make an attempt to take better care of them.

Theme Day Statues

May's Theme for City Daily Photo Bloggers is Statues. We recently discovered that there are many places with unique things to do and see just an hour or two outside of Las Vegas. This is of course one of them.  Let me introduce you to the Lady Desert: The Venus of Nevada 25 feet high made of cinderblocks . This is the artwork of Hugo Heyrman (1992), part of the Goldwell Open Air Museum in Rhyolite, NV. Pretty amazing don't you think?

Check out the rest of CDPB's statues here: Click here to view thumbnails for all participants.
